How is a facelift performed?
The traditional facelift or rhytidectomy consists of creating small incisions hidden around the ear and hairline and gently lifting up the skin and muscles of the face. Often times, a facelift also includes volume building, fat grafting, skin lasers, and radiofrequency techniques to improve elasticity, tone, and wrinkling. Your facial surgeon will employ a combination of surgical and nonsurgical techniques to achieve a youthful, rejuvenated, and natural appearance that you can feel happy and confident in. Depending on the way your face has aged, you may also see significant benefits from a mini facelift, neck lift, eyelid surgery, or brow lift.
How long is the recovery for a Facelift?
Most patients resume their regular activities in a week and return to work within 10 to 14 days after surgery. It is normal that patients experience some swelling, tightness, numbness and even skin discoloration in the first week following facelift surgery. Your facial plastic surgeon will provide you with pain medications to ease discomfort in the days following your facelift and you should plan not to drive for at least 3 days.
How long does a Facelift last?
Most patients report very noticeable results for about 10-15 years after having a traditional facelift. As opposed to a tummy tuck where the skin is being pulled downwards, during a facelift, the skin and muscles are being pulled upwards. Since gravity pulls the skin downwards, and so does the aging process, your skin will slowly sink back down over the next 20 years and the results of your facelift will begin to fade. Despite this effect, most patients still look 10-12 years younger than if they never had the procedure.

When you choose SurgeonGate to place you with a board-certified facelift surgeon in Michigan, the potential risks and complications are rare. These rare complications that have been associated with facelifts include hematoma formation, scarring, hair loss around the surgical incisions, and numbness of the facial nerves. Numbness of the face is seen in less than 1% of patients and regularly subsides with 3-6 months after surgery.
